Lisa Nandy appointed Shadow Foreign Secretary as Sir Keir Starmer begins to form Shadow Cabinet

Sir Keir Starmer has begun appointing his Shadow Cabinet on his second day in office as Leader of the Labour Party.

A former rival to the leadership position, Lisa Nandy has been appointed Shadow Foreign Secretary. Meanwhile, Angela Rayner, who was elected deputy leader, is to become chair of the Labour Party.

Other appointments so far are as follows;

  • Anneliese Dodds appointed as the first female Shadow Chancellor
  • Rachel Reeves appointed as the Shadow Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster
  • Nick Thomas-Symonds appointed as the Shadow Home Secretary
  • Nick Brown has been re-appointed Chief Whip
  • Angela Smith remains Shadow Leader of the Lords

Further appointments are expected to be announced on Monday.

Ian Lavery has been sacked as Labour chairman and is one of many people to be leaving the Shadow Cabinet. Mr Lavery congratulated Sir Keir on his victory and said: "Our new leadership team must continue to embrace the popular common sense agenda developed in the last few years."
