Inquiry into Grenfell Fire starts almost a year after blaze

A public inquiry will begin later into the Grenfell Tower Fire that claimed 72 lives last year.

The first phase of the inquiry will focus on what started the fire, how it spread and how the building was evacuated. The second phase of the inquiry will look at why the fire happened and whether mistakes were made by the organisations responsible for keeping the building maintained and safe.

Every bereaved family will have the opportunity to make a statement or show a video before evidence-taking formally begins later.

Grenfell Tower was destroyed last year and 72 lives were claimed when a fire broke out on the 14th June 2017.
