Election Pending: UK expected to head to polls on 12 December

It has been all but confirmed that the UK will head to the polls for an early general election on 12 December.

MPs in the House of Commons voted overwhelmingly on Tuesday night in favour of the early election, and the election is expected to be confirmed once the election bill has been scrutinised by the House of Lords on Wednesday.

The election will be the third in just five years - general elections are usually due to take place in the UK once every four years.

Opposition MPs backed the call for an election after the prospect of a no-deal exit on October 31 was taken off the table.
