Boris Johnson faces investigation over Burka jibe

Boris Johnson could face an investigation due to the comments he made about burkas which may breach the Conservative Party's code of conduct.

The party has received a great deal of complaints from the public about Johnson's comments about veiled women when he compared them to "bank robbers" and "letter boxes".

However, while there have been many complaints about him and demands to expel him, his case will be looked at by an independent panel which will refer the ex-foreign secretary to the board of the Conservative party.

The party has refused to disclose further details about the investigation.

Mr Johnson has refused to apologise for his comments and has also been rejecting calls from people demanding apologies.

This investigation was triggered by Mr Johnson's controversial article in the Daily Telegraph earlier this week where he wrote about Denmark's burka ban and appeared to argue against it.

He not only compared veiled women to "bank robbers" and "letter boxes", but he also stated that he felt entitled to ask them to remove their face coverings in his presence at his MP surgery and also went on to say that schools and universities should demand the same.

If Mr Johnson is found to be guilty of breaching the party's code of conduct by the board, then the Prime Minister Theresa May and party chair Brandon Lewis, could potentially suspend him or expel him from the party altogether.
