Sky News proposes three-leader debate on 28 November

Sky News has invited Boris Johnson, Jeremy Corbyn and Jo Swinson to take part in a televised debate on Thursday 28 November ahead of the upcoming general election.

Jo Swinson has said "I'm in", and has urged the other two leaders to take part as well.

The announcement comes just hours after Jo Swinson said the Lib Dems would potentially take legal action against ITV if they didn't change the format of their planned debate.

Sky News said that it had originally been planning for a debate just between the leaders of the two main parties - the Conservatives and Labour. However, Sky News said that given other double-headed debates have been proposed, it "believes it is sensible to suggest an alternative approach that will allow the public to properly scrutinise a wider range of views."

Data from a recent YouGov poll also showed that 53% of the public would back Jo Swinson being invited to the main televised debate between Mr Johnson and Mr Corbyn.
