PSA & UEA launch 'Dare To Speak Up' political speech competition

The Political Studies Association (PSA) and the University of East Anglia have launched a political speech competition for undergraduate students across the UK.

The competition is encouraging young people to 'Dare To Speak Up', adding that 'your speech could create a better future.'

It is key that in a democracy, people are able to speak up for what they believe in, but now more than ever, the way in which messages and ideas are portrayed in speeches and communications is particularly important. Trust in politicians and the political process in general, has faced significant challenges in recent years - fake news and claims of dishonesty also increase the questioning of political speeches.

But UEA & the PSA believe that speeches do have the potential to mobilise people to take action towards creating a better future.

The competition is encouraging students to sign up and take part, even if they have never participated in a political speech before. Support and tips are available for getting involved, and the winner of the competition will be invited to speak at the PSA's Annual International Conference in Edinburgh in April 2020.

The first round of the competition closes on 26 January 2020 (deadline extended) - for more information and to apply, please click here.
