Ex-Trump staff face prison sentences

US President Donald Trump’s ex-lawyer, Michael Cohen, has pleaded guilty to several charges and he has admitted to trying to influence the US election. Michael Cohen, who was fired in May this year, says he and the president had arranged hush money payments in order to influence the election. It is thought Mr Cohen may now face a three to a five-year jail term.

Meanwhile, Mr Trump’s former campaign chair has been found guilty of eight charges of tax fraud. Prosecutors accused Paul Manafort of avoiding paying more than $16m in taxes over several years. Mr Manafort’s sentencing date is yet to be confirmed.

The convictions are being described as the worst hour of Mr Trump’s presidency.
