New Prime Minister of Finland set to be world’s youngest ever female PM

Finland’s Social Democrats have selected their country’s youngest-ever Prime Minister.

Transportation Minister Sanna Marin won a vote amongst the leadership of the Social Democrats party in Finland to become their new leader and the country’s new Prime Minister. At the age of just 34, she is set to become the youngest current Prime Minister in the world, the youngest ever female Prime Minister in the world and also the youngest ever PM of Finland.

The vote came after Antti Rinne resigned from the role of Prime Minister this week after a member of the coalition government said that it had lost confidence in him following his handling of a postal strike.

Ms Marin’s nomination will need Parliament’s majority approval, and it is expected that this could happen on Tuesday.

Finland currently has a five-party coalition, (if including Ms Marin) all of whom have female leaders and four of whom are under the age of under 35.
