Honda set to close Swindon factory

The Japanese car manufacturer, Honda is set to announce the closure of its factory in Swindon, according to Sky News.

Reports are suggesting that the company is expected to close its plant in Swindon in 2022.

Honda has manufactured vehicles in Swindon for more than 30 years. If confirmed, the announcement would come as a surprise to many ministers, who had expected Honda to stay in the UK after Brexit.

The closure would see a high number of job losses and potentially a further blow to the UK economy. The news comes after Jaguar-Land Rover and Ford have announced job cuts in the UK due to Brexit.
