Coronavirus symptoms list in UK amended to include loss of smell and taste

Loss of smell or taste have been added to the UK’s official list of COVID-19 symptoms that people should be aware of and look out for.

The symptoms join the list that had previously only included fevers and coughs. Those experiencing symptoms of the virus should self-isolate in case they have had and could spread the virus.

Loss of smell or taste have been added to the list following advice to the government from scientific advisers. Ear, nose and throat doctors have already been arguing for their inclusion on the list for many weeks.

The official lists of symptoms for the Coronavirus vary by country and some researchers believe that they are many more symptoms than are actually being announced by governments. The World Health Organization has said that along with symptoms of fever, cough and tiredness, people may also experience aches and pains, a sore throat, diarrhoea, headaches, skin rashes, conjunctivitis (red eye) and losses of taste and/or smell.
