Briefing Saturday 18th August 2018

Nigel Farage is making a return to frontline politics to “fight back” against what he describes as Theresa May’s “fraudulent” Brexit plan. The former UKIP leader and current MEP said he would be part of a battle bus tour by the Leave Means Leave group to oppose the prime minister’s proposals.

The Labour Party has suspended councillor and former MP Jim Sheridan after an outburst on Facebook over the anti-Semitism row. The Facebook post has since been removed and Mr Sheridan has made no comment since.

UK Foreign Secretary, Jeremy Hunt, has clarified his views on a no-deal Brexit occurrence by stating that Britain would survive, however, it would be a “big mistake for Europe”. Hunt told ITV News that a no-deal Brexit would be a “mistake” which the UK would “regret for generations”.

And in other news:

The collapsed Genoa bridge that left 42 people dead will take just eight months to rebuild, its operator has said.
