Briefing Saturday 11th August

An explosion at a military factory in Salisbury has left one dead and another seriously injured. Emergency services were called to the facility near Porton Down just after 5 pm last night. A spokesman said the incident has been contained and that there is no risk to surrounding residents. The victim’s next of kin have been informed.

Many supporters of Boris Johnson have been branding Tory leadership a ‘joke’ after news emerged that the party may force him to undergo sensitivity training for his remarks about burkas. Johnson has received both criticisms from the Muslim community and support from comedians such as Rowan Atkinson for the remarks he made.

And in other news,

The Premier League season kicked off last night with Manchester United claiming all three points against Leicester. Paul Pogba put the red devils ahead just three minutes in after Daniel Amartey gave away a penalty with a handball. Luke Shaw doubled the lead in the final ten minutes before Jamie Vardy pulled one back at the death. This will come as a relief to United fans who saw their side miss out on major transfer targets just days before the season kicked off.
