Briefing Saturday 1st September

US state department has announced that the nation will end all funding for the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). This comes after the US withheld half of a scheduled payment to the UNRWA in January. This comes as a major blow to the agency with America being the largest donor.

An explosion at a café in Ukraine has killed a pro-Russian leader. Alexander Zakharchenko was the leader of pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine. Russia’s foreign ministry has blamed the Ukrainian government for the killing.

A man has been sentenced to life for plotting to kill Prime Minister Theresa May. The 21-year-old man will serve a minimum of thirty years.  He planned on blowing up the entrance to Downing Street and using a knife or gun to kill the Prime Minister. He wished to avenge the death of his uncle, an ISIS fighter who was killed whilst fighting in Syria.

And in other news,

Many American lawmakers and patriots are angry that new movie, ‘First Man’, depicting the moon landing has omitted a scene showing Neil Armstrong planting the US flag on the moon’s surface. Many feel it omits the national spirit that was the driving force behind the moon landing. The film’s star Ryan Gosling and Neil Armstrong have both defended the movie.
