Theresa May has played down the EU’s ‘optimistic talk’ over a Brexit deal, saying there is ‘a difference between talking about a deal being done and it actually happening.’
Shadow chancellor John McDonnell has appeared to U-turn on a policy to reform the government’s benefits system, saying it is “not sustainable”. Mr McDonnell said that the Universal Credit system ‘will have to go’.
