Bernie Sanders has ended his campaign for the 2020 Democratic nomination, exiting the race for the White House.
The 78-year-old Senator from Vermont is largely known for reshaping American politics with his youth-led movement for sweeping change.
His departure all but confirms that the former vice-president Joe Biden will be the Democratic presidential nominee to take on Donald Trump in this year’s US Presidential Election.
Mr Sanders’ announced his decision during an all-staff conference call on Wednesday morning. He told his aides that this was not just a presidential campaign, but a movement which they should be proud of.
