Are Coronavirus cases dropping in China?

China has reported its lowest rate of new Coronavirus patients since January according to reports, with the Chinese government saying its tough measures have been effective in stopping the spread of the virus.

China now has under 10,000 confirmed active cases of the virus, with only around 3,000 thought to be in a serious or critical condition. 16 new cases were reported in the country on Sunday, while thousands of new cases were being reported daily during the peak of the virus outbreak in the country.

Around 67,000 people have recovered from the virus in China, while over 3,000 have died.

With near 10,000 current confirmed active cases, China still has the second most active cases in the world, with Italy now having the most. China has had the most cases for any one country at over 80,000, but other global cases now outstrip this figure. China is now having to deal with visitors arriving from overseas carrying the virus.

China created 14 makeshift hospitals, some in a matter of days, and quarantined whole cities in response to the virus. 11 of the hospitals have now suspended operations or have closed due to there not being enough patients. Many shops and businesses are also returning to normal operations in the country.

While the virus still continues to spread in China, the rate of new cases has been falling.
