Home Secretary Amber Rudd resigns

The UK Home Secretary Amber Rudd has resigned.

The Home Secretary had facing pressure and calls to resign for a week following the uncovering of the Windrush scandal. Amber Rudd has apologised for “inadvertently” misleading a committee.

Opposition parties have said that Ms Rudd was paying the price for the “hostile environment” policy initiated by Theresa May during her time as Home Secretary.

The resignation is a major blow for Theresa May, who has now lost four cabinet ministers in just six months.

Sajid Javid, Michael Gove, Karen Bradley, Victoria Atkins and James Brokenshire have all been touted as Ms Rudd’s replacement.
